This book, written by Miranda Cecil, is the complete book of spells you will learn/learn about at the Magic School you attend.

Abeo cultivate (Disillusionment Charm)
Pronunciation: AB-eo cult-I-VATE
Description: Causes the target to become able to change colour to match their background, effectively hiding them without making them invisible.

Accio (The Summoning Charm)
Pronunciation: AH-kee-oh
Description: This charm summons an object to the caster. It can be used in two ways: by casting the charm, and naming the object desired ( ie."Accio Book"), or by pointing the wand at the desired object during or immediately following the incantation to "pull" it towards you.

Aguamenti
Pronunciation: ah-gwa-MEN-tee
Description: It produces a jet of water from the witch or wizard's wand.

Alarte Ascendare
Pronunciation: uh-LAR-tay uh-SEN-dar-ay
Description: Spell which causes something to shoot up into the air.

Alohomora
Pronunciation: a-LOW-ho-MORE-ah
Description: Used to open and unlock doors.

Anapneo
Pronunciation: ahn-ahp-NAY-oh
Description: Clears the target's airway, if blocked.

Aparecium
Pronunciation: a-pa-REE-see-um
Description: This spell makes invisible ink and perhaps invisible items in general appear.

Aqua Eructo
Pronunciation: a-kwa err-UK-to
Description: This creates a large torrent of water, used mainly in putting out large fires, usually used by with one or more wizards.

Arania Exumai
Pronunciation: ara-NIA ex-U-mai
Description: Knocks over or throws back spiders.

Arresto Momentum
Pronunciation: ar-rest-O mo-MENT-um
Description: Slows the speed of a moving object that is falling.

Ascendio
Pronunciation: AS-cend-DIO
Description: Propels the caster of the spell upwards.

Avada Kedavra (The Killing Curse)
Pronunciation: a-VAH-da ka-DA-vra
Description: One of the three "Unforgivable Curses". Causes instant death. This spell produces a jet or flash of green light, and a sound of some huge invisible thing rushing at the target.

Avis
Pronunciation: AH-vis
Description: The charm creates a flock of birds which pour forth from the caster's wand.

B

Ablegatio (The Banishing Charm)
Pronunciation: able-GAY-tio
Description: The opposite of the Summoning Charm. It causes the targeted object to be thrown away from the caster, but it requires good aim.

Bombarda
Pronunciation: bom-BAR-da
Description: Spell that can blast open a door.

C

Carpe Retractum
Pronunciation: car-PE re-tract-UM
Description: It releases a red beam that pulls items or heavy objects toward you, or you towards them.

Colloportus
Pronunciation: coll-oh-PORT-us
Description: This spell will magically lock a door, preventing it from being opened for a (presumably) limited amount of time.

Crucio (The Cruciatus Curse)
Pronunciation: CRU-shee-oh
Description: Inflicts great pain on the recipient of the curse. One of the three "Unforgivable Curses".

D

Declino alica (Hex Deflection)
Pronunciation: dec-lin-O alic-CA
Description: Deflects spells. It seems to be similar to a Shield Charm, although deflection does not cause the spell to rebound on the attacker.

Deletrius
Pronunciation: de-LEET-ree-us
Description: An erasure spell. It erases images and magical "after-effects".

Densaugeo
Pronunciation: denz-OW-gay-oh
Description: The charm makes the victim's teeth grow rapidly.

Diffindo
Pronunciation: dif-FIN-doh
Description: Tears the target, or a specific area on the target.

Discrimen res(The Protean Charm)
Pronunciation: dis-CRIM-en res
Description: Causes copies of an object to be remotely affected by changes made to the original.
Notes: The Protean Charm is an NEWT standard charm.

E

Ebullio caput capitis (Bubblehead Charm)
Pronunciation: E-bull-eeo ca-PUT cap-I-tis
Description: Puts a large bubble of air around the head of the user. Used as a magical equivalent of a breathing set.

Engorgio (The Engorgement Charm)
Pronunciation: en-GORJ-ee-oh
Description: Makes something grow larger.

Ennervate
Pronunciation: EN-er-VATE
Description: An "awakening" spell.

Episkey
Pronunciation: eh-PIS-key
Description: Used to heal relatively minor injuries.

Evanesco
Pronunciation: eh-ven-ES-ko
Description: Makes something vanish.

Everte Statum
Pronunciation: ee-VER-tay STA-tum
Dueling spell used to send the opponent flying.

Expecto Patronum (The Patronus Charm)
Pronunciation: ex-PEC-to pa-TRONE-um
Description: The Patronus Charm is a defensive spell, used to conjure an incarnation of the Witch's or Wizard's innermost positive emotions, to act as a protector.

Expelliarmus (The Disarming Charm)
Pronunciation: ex-PEL-lee-AR-mus
Description: This spell is used to disarm another wizard, typically by causing the victim's wand to fly out of reach. It also throws the wizard backwards a few feet when enough power is placed behind it. Simultaneous use of this spell by multiple witches or wizards on a single person can throw the wizard back more powerfully.

Fera Verto
Pronunciation: fer-A vert-O
Description: The spell transforms an animal into a water goblet

Ferula
Pronunciation: FAIR-oo-lah
Description: Creates a splint.

(Fidelius Charm)
Pronunciation: Possibly 'Fidelio' (FEE-day-LEE-o), although repeated references to it as a 'complicated charm' suggest that it might require more than just the one word, perhaps something similar to the ritual involved in the Unbreakable Vow.
Description: This complex charm enables secret information to be hidden within the soul of the recipient, known as a Secret-Keeper. The information is then irretrievable until and unless the Secret-Keeper chooses to reveal it; not even those who have the secret revealed to them can reveal it to others.

Finite Incantatem
Pronunciation: fi-NEET-ay in-can-TAT-um
Description: Used to end the effects of a spell.

Flagrate
Pronunciation: flag-RAH-tay
Description: With this spell, the caster's wand can leave fiery marks.

Flamma gelidus lepor lepos (Flame-Freezing Charm)
Pronunciation: flam-MA geli-DUS le-POR le-POS
Description: Causes fire to become harmless to those caught in it, creating only a gentle, tickling sensation instead of burns.
Notes: Used by witches and wizards during medieval burnings. One witch (Wendelin the Weird) was so fond of the tickling sensation she allowed herself to be caught and subsequently burned 47 times.

Flipendo
Pronunciation: flip-PEN-DO
Description: The spell used to push or topple something.

Furnunculus
Pronunciation: fur-NUNG-cu-lus
Description: Makes boils appear on the victim.

H

(Horcrux Spell)
Pronunciation: Unknown
Description: This spell allows a part of a wizard's soul to pass into an object, thereby making the object a Horcrux. One has to commit murder and take advantage of the soul's "splitting apart" by this most evil deed in order to be able to perform this spell, and it is probably very complex.

I

Immobulis
Pronunciation: im-mo-BU-lis
Description: Freezes objects where they are.

Immunis deliquesco (Anti-Disappearation Charm)
Pronunciation: im-MUN-is de-li-qu-SCO
Description: Used to prevent Disapparation in an area for a time. Presumably can be used to prevent an enemy from entering a defended area, or used to trap an enemy in an area.

(Imperturbable Charm)
Pronunciation: Unknown (Note: this could be the title for Impervius; the two charms seem to have the same effect.)
Description: Makes objects such as doors impenetrable (by everything, including sounds and objects).

Impedimenta (The Impediment Charm)
Pronunciation: im-PED-i-MEN-tuh
Description: This hex is capable of tripping, freezing, binding, knocking back and generally impeding the target's progress towards the caster. The extent to which the spell's specific action can be controlled by the caster is unclear.

Imperio (The Imperius Curse)
Pronunciation: im-PEAR-ee-oh
Description: One of the three "Unforgivable Curses". Causes the recipient of the curse to do the unquestioned bidding of the caster, although those who are strong willed may learn to resist it.

Impervius
Pronunciation: im-PER-vi-ous
Description: This spell makes something repel (literally, become impervious to) water (perhaps other substances as well).

Incarcerous
Pronunciation: in-CAR-ser-us
Description: Ties someone or something up with ropes.

Incendio
Pronunciation: in-SEND-ee-oh
Description: Produces fire.

Inconcessus captio (Anti-Cheating Charm)
Pronunciation: in-con-CESS-IUS cap-TI-O
Description: Cast on a quill to prevent the writer from cheating while writing answers.

Inconditus confusus (Confundus Charm)
Pronunciation: in-CON-di-tus con-fuse-US
Description: The Confundus Charm is a confusion spell.

Lacarnum Inflamari
Pronunciation: la-CAR-N-um Infla-mara-IE
Description: Ignites a flame in clothing.

Langlock
Pronunciation: LANG-lock
Description: Glues the subject's tongue to the roof of their mouth. Created by the Half-Blood Prince.

Levicorpus
Pronunciation: Lev-i-CORE-pus
Description: the victim is dangled upside-down by their ankles, sometimes accompanied by a flash of light (this may be a variant of the spell).

Liberacorpus
Pronunciation: LEE-bear-a-CORE-pus
Description: Counteracts Levicorpus.
Notes: It is not clear why Levicorpus has a specific counterspell, and is not neutralized by simply using Finite Incantatem.

Locomotor
Pronunciation: LOW-co-MOW-tor
Description: The spell is always used with the name of a target, at which the wand is pointed (e.g., "Locomotor Trunk!"). The spell causes the named object to rise in the air and move around at the will of the caster.

Locomotor Mortis (The Leg-Locker Curse)
Pronunciation: LOW-co-MOW-tor MORE-tis
Description: Locks the legs together, preventing the victim from moving the legs in any fashon.

Lumos
Pronunciation: LOO-mos
Description: Creates a narrow beam of light that shines from the wand's tip, like a torch.
Notes: There are different variations of the spell, like "Lumos Solem" and "Lumos Maxima".

Lumos Maxima
Pronunciation: LOO-mos max-I-ma
Description: Generates a brilliant light. A more powerful version of the Lumos spell.

Lumos Solem
Pronunciation: LOO-mos so-LEM
Description: Generates a brilliant blast of light, as bright as the sun, and may actually be sunlight.
Alternate spelling: Lumos Solarem

Lux lucis (Hand-held Light)
Pronunciation: Loox Loo-CIS
Description: A small, handheld flame.

Mobiliarbus
Pronunciation: Mow-BILL-ee-ARE-bus
Description: Moves trees (possibly other plants as well).

Mobilicorpus
Pronunciation: Mow-BILL-i-CORE-pus
Description: Levitates and moves bodies.

Morsmordre
Pronunciation: Mors-MORE-dreh
Description: Conjures the Dark Mark.

Muffliato
Pronunciation: Muff-lee-AH-toe
Description: This spell fills peoples' ears with an unidentifiable buzzing, to keep them from hearing nearby conversations.

Nox
Pronunciation: Nox
Description: Turns off the light produced by the Lumos spell, and may be used to turn out other lights (as the Put-Outer does).

O

Obliviate (The Memory Charm)
Pronunciation: oh-BLIV-ee-ATE
Description: Used to remove or perhaps alter the subject's memories of an event.

Oculus Reparo
Pronunciation: oc-CU-lus re-PAR-oh
Description: Repairs glass

Oppugno
Pronunciation: oh-PUG-no
Description: Causes animals or beings of lesser intelligence to attack.

Orchideous
Pronunciation: or-KID-ee-us
Description: Makes a bouquet of flowers appear out of the caster's wand.

Description: Packs a trunk, or perhaps any luggage.
Parum oculus (Conjunctivitis Curse)
Pronunciation: PAR-um oc-CU-lus
Description: A curse that affects the victim's eyesight and vision.

Peskipiksi pesternomi
Pronunciation: Pesky-pixie, pester-no-me
Description: Apparently causes Pixies to leave or at least desist from mischief-making.

Petrificus Totalus (Full Body Bind)
Pronunciation: Pe-Triff-i-cuss Toe-tall-us
Description: Used to temporarily make the victim be frozen in a position much like a soldier at attention; usually the person falls down.

Planto maior (Inflatus charm)
Pronunciation: plant-O may-OR
Description: Causes someone to blow up like a balloon and fly away.

Pluma pondus (Featherweight Charm)
Pronunciation: plume-MA pon-DUS
Description: Makes something lightweight.

Point Me" (The Four-Point Spell)
Pronunciation: As in English /point mi:/
Description: The Four-Point Spell causes the caster's wand tip to point to the north cardinal point, acting like a compass. It only points north.

Portus
Pronunciation: POUR-tuss
Description: Turns an object into a Portkey, a device which transports the toucher to a desired destination, with a blue glow.

Priori Incantato
Pronunciation: PREE-or-EE In-can-TAH-toe
Description: Makes a shadowy image of the effect of the last spell cast by a wand emerge from its tip. This is called an "echo" of the spell.

Protego (Shield Charm)
Pronunciation: Pro-TAY-go
Description: The Shield Charm causes minor jinxes to rebound upon the attacker.
Notes: Given that it is stated that Avada Kedavra seems unblockable, it is likely Protego cannot deflect it.

Punctum alica(Stinging Hex)
Pronunciation: punc-TUM ali-KA
Description: Produces a stinging sensation in the victim.

Q

Quietus
Pronunciation: Quee-AY-tuss
Description: Makes a magically magnified voice return to normal. A counter to Sonorus.
Notes: It is conjectural whether Quietus could be used alone to magically quieten a person's voice.

R

Reducio
Pronunciation: Red-DO-see-oh
Description: Makes an enlarged object smaller. Countercharm to Engorgio.

Reducto
Pronunciation: Re-DUCK-toe
Description: Disintegrates or destroys objects in the caster's path.
Notes: It is possible to increase the spell's power, producing different levels of destruction. Apparently the spell is additive in force; that is, many people casting the spell on an object produce a more destructive effect than any single one would.

Relashio
Pronunciation: Re-LASH-ee-oh
Description: This spell appears to defend against minor attacks, or to counterattack one's opponents.

Rennervate
Pronunciation: Ren-ner-VATE
Description: Appears to rouse an unconscious person.

Reparo
Pronunciation: Re-PAR-oh
Description: Used to repair objects.

Rictusempra (Tickling Charm)
Pronunciation: RIK-too-SEM-pra
Description: Tickles the recipient, causing uncontrollable, unpreventable laughter.

Riddikulus
Pronunciation: Ri-DIK-uh-lous
Description: A spell used when fighting a Boggart, "Riddikulus" forces the Boggart to take the appearance of an object the caster finds humorous, with the desire that laughter will weaken the Boggart.

Risus hilaris(Cheering Charm)
Pronunciation: ri-sus hil-LAIR-is
Description: Causes the person whom the spell was cast upon to become happy and contented, though heavy-handedness with the spell may cause the person to break into an uncontrollable laughing fit.
Notes: Invented by Felix Summerbee (1447–1508).

Pronunciation: "SKER-ji-fy" or "SCORE-ji-fy"
Description: Used to clean something.

Sectumsempra
Pronunciation: SEK-tum-SEM-pruh.
Description: A spell that creates a gash on the subject the way the wand is moved.

Serpensortia
Pronunciation: SIR-pen-SOR-tee-ah
Description: Conjures a serpent from the spellcaster's wand.

Silencio (Silencing Charm)
Pronunciation: Si-LEN-si-oh
Description: Makes something silent.

“Eat Slugs”
Pronunciation: Eat Slugs
Description: The victim vomits slugs.

Snufflifors
Pronunciation: snuff-I-li-FORES
Description: Transfigures small books into mice

Sonorus
Pronunciation: So-NORE-us
Description: Magnifies the spellcaster's voice.
Notes: The counterspell is Quietus.

Specialis Revelio
Pronunciation: Spess-ee-AH-lis Re-VELL-ee-oh
Description: Apparently causes an object to show its hidden secrets or magical properties. Notes: The spell may also be able to distinguish different ingredients in a potion.

Spongify
Pronunciation: sponge-I-FY
Description: Allows the user to bounce on a magical gel-like substance

Stupefy (Stunning Spell)
Pronunciation: As in English
Description: Puts the victim in an unconscious state.

Tarantallegra
Pronunciation: Ta-RON-ta-LEG-rah
Description: Makes victim's legs dance uncontrollably (recalling the tarantella dance).

Tremo cruris (Jelly-Legs Jinx)
Pronunciation: tree-MO cru-RIS
Description: The victim's legs wobble uncontrollably, in a jelly-like fashion.

Tentatio volatilis (Bat-Bogey Hex)
Pronunciation: ten-TAT-io vol-at-i-lis
Description: Causes bogies to turn into bats and attack the victim.

Tergeo
Pronunciation: TEAR-jay-oh
Description: A spell used to clean liquid from a surface.

(Transmogrifian Torture)
Pronunciation: Unknown
Description: Accordingly, a torture curse that ends up with the object (any living animal no larger than a dog) being killed. This spell has a counter-curse, which can only be cast by the killer.

Transtuli alius (Transfiguration Spell)
Pronunciation: trans-TULL-IE aly-US
Description: Transforms living or non-living things into something else.

Trinus sursum (Trip Jinx)
Pronunciation: trin-US sur-SOME
Description: Once used, makes the object or target of the wand trip.

Veneficus averto formo (Homorphus Charm)
Pronunciation: Unknown
Description: Apparently causes a werewolf (or perhaps any human enchanted out of human form) to reassume human shape.
Notes: It can be assumed that this is a real charm but is presumably very complex, with more to it then just saying the spell.

Ventus
Pronunciation: ven-TUS
Description: Shoots thin cord rope out of your wand. Once it's out you can control the rope

Waddiwasi
Pronunciation: WAD-ee-WAH-see
Description: Appears to launch small objects through the air.

Wingardium Leviosa (Hover Charm or Levitation Charm)
Pronunciation: Win-GUARD-ee-um Le-vee-OH-sah
Description: Levitates objects.
Notes: It is used by saying "Wingardium Leviosa!" while making a "swish and flick" movement with the wand.
